SBIR/STTR Grant Resources

Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants are federal programs that help fund technology commercialization for small businesses. They are very similar programs with some minor differences. The SBIR program requires the small business to take the lead, and allows collaboration with academic institutions, while STTR programs allow either the small business or the non-profit collaborator, such as an academic institution to take the lead, and the collaboration is required.

The University of Alabama provides a short course provided by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI program) that may help you in writing an SBIR or STTR grant proposal. This course is available on the CITI Program website below.
